Hi,
I am Yiran Xu (Rebecca), the Chinese teacher for KB class this school year. Welcome to our class! I look forward to starting a wonderful journey of learning Chinese with your children and maintaining close communication with you throughout the year.
This year, we will be using the Ma Liping Chinese curriculum. The main content focuses on nursery rhymes suitable for students’ cognitive development, with additional vocabulary extension after each lesson. By the end of the school year, students are expected to recognize around 200–300 Chinese characters. The main goal is to help children develop an overall sense of Chinese characters, which will greatly benefit their future learning. I will use a “Listen—Read—Play—Recognize” approach to build a strong foundation in Chinese.
The curriculum also includes workbooks and online homework for practice. I kindly ask parents to encourage children to complete their homework independently during the week. Whenever possible, please create a Chinese-speaking environment at home to support their learning. Additional resources are available here:

Please ensure your child brings the following materials to class:
- Chinese Nursery Rhymes – Kindergarten textbook (yellow cover)
- Workbook (pink cover)
- Character flashcards (yellow grid, cut and organized in a zip bag/box)
- Pencils, eraser, colored pencils (or crayons, markers)
- One notebook
Regular attendance is highly encouraged. If your child cannot attend class, please inform me in advance. Parents can enter the classroom when picking up and dropping off. Please hand over your children to the teacher in person to ensure safety.
Learning Chinese may be challenging, but with persistence and support, every child can make great progress. Thank you for your trust and cooperation!
