Baltimore Chinese School
巴尔的摩中文学校

Baltimore Chinese School (BCS) is a non-profit organization, founded in 1998 by a group of scholars and professionals. BCS is committed to serve the Greater Baltimore community and offer lessons to people interested in learning Chinese language and Chinese culture. BCS’s mission is to prepare our students with excellent Chinese communication skills in order to function competitively in a global society. BCS has an ethnically diverse student body. However, most of them come from Chinese-American families.

To fulfill our mission, BCS teaches Chinese phonics (pin yin) and simplified Chinese characters, which are commonly used in China. Our curricula are designed to meet the various demands of our students at different Chinese levels. The language classes have two tracks: (1) learning Chinese as a heritage language; (2) learning Chinese as a second language. BCS also offers cultural classes including but not limited to Arts, Tai Chi and Gong Fu. All language and cultural classes are taught by our dedicated and experienced teachers with advanced graduate degrees in education or in Chinese literature. Through the systematic Chinese education, many BCS students have achieved a high-level proficiency in Chinese that is evidenced in receiving numerous awards in Chinese writing contests given by major Chinese media as well as outstanding performance in SAT II Chinese Subject Test.

BCS is open to the public, regardless of a student's gender, race, age, religion and/or nationality. The current enrollment is about 200 students. The language classes are scheduled on Sundays 1:30 - 3:20 PM and 3:30 - 5:20 PM. The cultural classes are scheduled at 3:30 PM. All classes are conducted in the Schaefer Engineering Building of Morgan State University, 5200 Perring Parkway, Baltimore, Maryland 21251.
